From January 1, 2022 every Queensland rental property and every property sold will need to be fitted with interconnected smoke alarms in all bedrooms, as well as hallways of residences.
Any smoke alarm being replaced must be a photoelectric smoke alarm.
All houses being built or significantly renovated will need to comply with the new smoke alarm legislation upon completion.
All houses leased or sold will need to meet compliance after 1st January, 2022.
All owner-occupied private dwellings will need to comply with the legislation by 1st January, 2027
Smoke Alarms can either be:
- 240V mains powered interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms
- Photoelectric 10-year lithium battery smoke alarms and interconnect between each alarm
