THERMAL IMAGING
Professional Infrared Thermal Imaging InspectionsTHERMAL IMAGING / thermography
Checkmate Safety provides professional switchboard thermal imaging services using certified thermographers and specialised infrared equipment. Thermal imaging is an essential part of electrical maintenance, helping to identify early signs of faults, overheating and potential failure before they become costly or dangerous..
Our technicians are fully trained and certified to AS ISO 18436.7:2014 – Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics of Machines (Thermography), ensuring every inspection is accurate, compliant and carried out to the highest industry standard.
We service Brisbane, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Warwick, Stanthorpe, Ipswich, Gatton and all surrounding regions.
What Is Thermal Imaging?
Thermal imaging (or infrared thermography) is a non-invasive diagnostic test that uses infrared cameras to detect abnormal heat patterns inside electrical systems.
Excess heat is often the first sign of:
-
Loose or failing connections
-
Overloaded circuits
-
Worn components
-
Imbalanced phases
-
Faulty breakers
-
Deteriorating cables or terminations
These issues may not be visible during a standard visual inspection but can pose a serious fire or safety risk if undetected.
How Thermal Imaging Works
During an inspection, our certified thermographers:
-
Operate infrared imaging equipment while the electrical system is live
-
Capture thermal images (“heat maps”) of switchboards, circuits and components
-
Identify temperature variations and hotspots
-
Assess results against acceptable temperature thresholds
-
Diagnose potential faults and safety issues
Inspections are completed safely under real operating conditions — no shutdowns or downtime required.
Why Thermal Imaging Is Important
Thermal imaging helps businesses:
-
Prevent electrical fires and equipment failures
-
Reduce unplanned downtime and costly repairs
-
Meet insurance and compliance requirements
-
Improve electrical safety performance
-
Schedule planned maintenance instead of emergency callouts
Most insurers now recommend — and in some cases require — annual thermal imaging of electrical switchboards.
Comprehensive Reporting
After each inspection, you receive a detailed thermal imaging report, typically within 48 hours (often same day), including:
-
Description of the switchboards inspected
-
Summary of findings
-
Thermal images with temperature readings
-
Interpretation notes from a certified thermographer
-
Identification of faults or hotspots
-
Recommended rectifications (if required)
Our reports are easy to understand, even for non-technical clients, and suitable for insurance, compliance and maintenance records.
Recommended Testing Frequency
We recommend thermal imaging be carried out:
-
Annually, or
-
As specified by your insurer, risk assessment or safety management plan
Regular imaging ensures faults are detected early and keeps your business safely operating.
Certified Technicians
Checkmate Safety are certified to:
AS ISO 18436.7:2014 – Thermography
This ensures proper training, correct diagnostic interpretation and compliance with industry standards.
